Dallas, TX (September 27) A group of local Realtors showed their appreciation to local firefighters on September 11. After taking President Obama up on his challenge, the Realtors in Action Committee of Dallas/Fort Worth Realtors/MetroTex Association of Realtors delivered thousands of home-baked cookies to over 80 fire stations.
When Janna Schick, Sales Associate for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage – Dallas/Fort Worth and Chair of the Realtors in Action Committee was approached about participating in President Obama’s call for action, G.I.V.E (The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act), she instantly knew her committee would want to take on this challenge. After a group discussion, the committee decided there wasn’t a better day to give back to their country and local community than September 11.
The ideas and excitement started flowing and the members came up with the idea to bake and deliver homemade cookies to firemen. The group divided the Dallas area and assigned team captains in each region. Schick, a team captain and her co-workers from the Park Cities office were assigned four fire stations in their area to bake and deliver cookies. The goal was to deliver two dozen cookies to each fire station. However, the people in her office baked so many cookies that they ended up delivering
eight dozen cookies to each of the four fire stations. Over 3,000 cookies were delivered to 85 fire stations.
“The firemen were very appreciative and friendly,” said Schick. It was a very moving experience to be in a fire station on September 11, a date none of us will ever forget. It made me stop and think about how much we owe these men and women, who put their lives on the line for us everyday. “
The Realtors in Action Committee and the Park Cities office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage-Dallas/Fort Worth have also partnered with the Red Cross and local fire departments to install smoke detectors in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods twice a year.
